The seminars taught industrial engineering, cost control, and the value of investing in research and development. They taught that workers on all levels of the company should be included in product development. But mainly the course stressed quality control, that it is a state of mind that can’t be inspected into a product. Somebody has to lead the construction effort for this to happen.

With the speed of modern construction a lot can happen quickly, and if the architect isn't there to communicate, and monitor... quality slips or costs more.
